I recently purchased the vehicle and it needs a new carburetor.  But, there are so many to choose from (2 or 4 barrel; among other options).  What brand do you use?  Any help will be appreciated.

Detail 'it needs a new carburetor', often that is not necessarily true.......... .....and an OEM type like what was on there would be best and easiest. Forget 4 bbl. unless you like pain and things that at face value sound simple but are not at all. Your state emissions laws may well determine the purchase too.

There was a big thread in here about intakes, and I was also looking at carburetors for the intakes.  I'm decided on a motorcaft 2150 (others also like the 2100).  It has the annular fuel technology, opens both butterflies for better performance, and I also got mine with an electric choke and an altitude adjuster in case I want to take trips to the mountains with it.  Webers have some of those features depending on if you're looking at a progressive similar to stock or the 36/36 which also opens both butterflies.  I decided against a 4bbl as I felt like since I am not racing it would just be too big for my purposes.  Mine is not computer controlled either if you're looking at the 2150's.  Cant' remember but somewhere around 83 or 85 or so they went computer controlled.  Hope that helps.

The base plate of the 2150 carb is different from the base plate of the 2100 carb and will leak air big time if you don't fix it first. I remember there was part of the base plate that hung down and kept the base plate from making a good seal with the intake. This could be the reason the mini stock people use the 2100 carbs. I know on the 2100's I have, there is nothing hanging down from the base plate to prevent a good seal with the intake.
Its better to be a has-been, than a never was.

I suspect the big reason is that 2150s are leaner than 2100s and because of those metering rods. Why the mod was done, to be able to closer dial in fuel to be able to go leaner at cruise and light acceleration. A stopgap measure for emissions. And no easy retuning to be done there with no availability of extra rods for tuning. Much more tuning hassle anyway. Why Carter and Rochester carbs are so much trouble race tuning, you have to have a thousand dollars worth of rods and metering orifices. Ask John Lingenfelter.. .........

I don't remember anything different in the 2150 baseplate but the power valve cover got much deeper with the two stage valve often used there and it got leaner too as a result. The valve cover will definitely interfere with some manifold flats. Some later emission 2100s came with the same deep cover setup. If you can find a shallow cover the carb can be converted back to a single stage valve easily and then does not pose a manifold sealing issue either.

Depends on venturi size.......... look at the size code listed under accelerator pump link, it's casted into carb body. Something close to like 108, three digits.

A 300 cfm carb, some work to get carb working and no improvement really over an OEM 280 cfm Weber/Holley/Motorcraft staged two barrel........ .............. you'll need some sort of adapter to mount on a 2.0 intake I'm thinking.

Way too small for a 460. The Holley 500 is really too big for a stock 2.0, needs more like a 350 cfm.

i ditched my carb for EFI and didnt spend a whole lot more money... lol. I got a deal on stuff tho. Ive never had a carb on a pinto that I liked... theyre all old and worn out now... costs hundreds to get them done right anymore... and no one really knows how to work on them anymore... i cant find anyone in my city that works on carburetors...
