What's up with my VIN?
« on: February 04, 2013, 08:42:31 PM »
As far as I know, there is no such thing as a Pinto VIN that starts with O. (From what I've found.) On my cars title, the vin is OT12A220097 I'm thinking that possibly the O at the beginning is supposed to be a Zero and is a typo but that doesn't explain the A engine code.

According to the VIN decoder at the bottom of the website:
0T12A220097
0= 1980
T= Metuchen plant
12= Pinto wagon
A is where the engine code should be per the decoder but there isn't a code A for the engine. The remaining six digits is the consecutive unit number, which is the number of when the car came off the assembly line.

I know 0 is correct for 1980 since my Pinto title has a zero at the beginning & it is a 1980 Pinto.

Here's the direct link to the decoder: http://www.fordpinto.com/index.php?page=233

I guess the A must be a typo or something. Who knows haha.

@Hanto That's impressive right there haha

LOL it must be since the only engine available in 1980 was the 2.3  ;D

Charles I certainly hope that you haven't had that 1917 Pinto since it rolled off Henry's assembly line

Judging by my '80 wagon, I'm assuming Ford may have tweaked the engine codes for the 1980 model year because of the only option being the 2.3L. My VIN also lists an 'A' as the engine VIN. Just a thought...

Steve, It's possible my great grandparents ordered it in 1917 but due to a UAW strike at the Ford plant, it was not delivered until 1971 ::)  It could also be that I AM that old because I don't remember if I was the one that ordered it. A good thing about a bad memory, you never remember you have one ;D  (also you wake up with a woman every morning that you don't recognize) ;)
