I just became a member so have some patience . We have owned an 80" pinto ( sold it many yrs. ago ) as a day driver . I had spent all my time & $$$ on mustangs ( 66-69 ) so I,m not completely out of the loop on v8's and fords . But now I want to get in to a CLEAN , well put together 80 , v8 pinto . But I fear I'm out of my element as to being able to ( 1 ) know what is a well done v8 car ( vs. a crap job that will be un-safe ) and (2) what is a fair price for a restor-able car. I only have time to restor one NOT build a v8 car . So I would be interested in enjoying it from day one as I restor it .

You have to be able to see the car in person to know if it's crap or a well done job. If you can't look at it in person, a ton of pictures sure helps. Like my 80 Wagon, I started with a very clean Cali car (no rust and not beat to death) and went from there. The car overall is in good shape but is a long ways from done....and it's for sale.

RSM is right. The car definitely determines the price. I know of two here locally one that you could get for $10K and it would be worth every penny and another for $3K that you'd really have to checkout more than I have.

I'm in the process of a 302 /T5 / 9" rearend swap and started with an 80 Pinto sedan that I have owned since I purchased it in 1986. I've been collecting parts for many years, have gotten a few nice items for very cheap or even free and started with a rust-free vehicle. I currently have $10K invested and haven't painted the car yet but that price includes tubular front upper and lower A arms, 5 lug rotors, poly bushings all around, MII sway bars, Cal-Tracs, and aluminum heads just to name a few. As previously stated, if you are considering purchasing a vehicle such as this, it is paramount to see the vehicle in person, drive the car, ensure that the switches, knobs, blower motor, lights and windshield wipers work, look in the trunk and look underneath the car. A picture cant replicate a worn wheel bearing that decides to go out when you are coming to an abrupt stop while engaging in more "spirited" driving.

Sorry , but that sounds a bit High ! Or am I just behind the times .

10k wouldn't buy my engine.
Prices the last year on the V8 cars has been in the 10k to 20k , it seems to me.
I haven't looked in the for sale section for a while, but there used to be a couple V8s for sale there.
You need to see the car in person to decide if it is what you want.
Some have some very amazing work done to them. Some just the basics for a go fast car.
Not cheap building a V8 car now-a-days. First one I built in the early 70s cost me $1500.00 all in. The one I have now will likely push me 40k when done. :o

Hi Bob,I too just became a member{about an hour and a half ago}and Idrive a 77 wagon I put a 5.0engine from a 88 fullsize wagon in.The donor car cost me $300,the Pinto had been abandoned in my driveway years before,the car was clean so Isaved it.That was free.I been welding,fabricating and wrenching on cars professionaly since 1975 so alot of parts I had around.Aluminu m intake,Holley carb,T10 trans wHurst shifter,brand new custom dual exhaust FREE,cuz thats what I do and a old radiator I patched and made do with and I still got close to $2500 in stuff I did pay for.Add to that the hours{uncounted}of skilled labor I've put into the Pinto project.The cars solid,I drive it everywhere everyday,but Iwouldn't call it finished.Add paint,interior maybe some mags and tires I might break even at $10,000.We're not talking a race winning show car,just something fun to drive that won't break down. I saw a couple of v8 pintos swap hands recently. Both well done. One in western pennsylvania sold on ebay sold for 5k, one in colorado sold for 4.5k. I'll have about 5.5k in my current build, but that's not figuring in a donor drive train from a current drag car I own. All that said, the least expensive way out is to take your time and shop for a good done piece.

There is one for sale on ebay right now (not my style- painted bumpers etc) but it looks like a decent driver> It is in N.C. and it looks like the price might be right.

Would need work to clean it up. Not sure what an inspection would say on the fuel tank inside like that. Same for battery. Engine compartment needs lots of work. Remote oil filter mounted funny.
