I'm driving 200 miles [one way] to buy a Pinto inline 4 engine/transmission, drive shaft, headers, and alternator for $175.00. Now comes the fun part, I have a '99 Le Sabre...Do I need to disassemble the engine/tranny for it to fit in the back seat? The drive shaft of a Pinto should fit in my trunk with the headers, alt with anything else he didn't mention. I've got a wool blanket and a tarp, I'm not scared. ;D
Any who, and figures of weight, legnth etc..etc.. would be nice. ''Guess-ta-mation'' won't get the MPG figures to go get em [and me] home.

Your going to have a heck of a time just getting it in there. They are heavy.
Should fit in the trunk with the tail shaft sticking out. Take some padding along for paint protection. If you seperate them they should fit with the trunk lid open.
I have a 2.3 with the C3 that hangs off just a bit on a standard pallet in the garage.

Total weight should be roughly 325 pounds. I'd split them to load easier. I brought my air cooled 2180 VW motor complete with dual carbs & cooling shroud home in the back seat of my Neon sitting on 4 layers of carpet.
-
Any thoughts about taking off the intake & headers and lying the motor sideways with the trunk closed if I drained the oil? I'm tryin to get the best possible mileage outta my ol beater. The tranny would have to be the backseat if the engine was the trunk.
-
I don't think it would hurt a thing.

I can get you some measurements tomorrow of a EAO 2.0 and 4 speed or auto if that will help. I've put a sbc in the back of a plymouth horizon and a friend put a ford 300 6 cyl in the trunk of a nissan altima. My mom has a 2000 lesabre and if pull the trans, put it in first, then the motor, you can put some blankets/pads on top and rope the trunk shut.

Rent a moving truck from Uhaul . In out and only $19.00 plus insurance. As long as you return the truck the same day. It should be unlimited mileage.
-
U-Haul...waaay too expensive. :-\
Ya said you's put an Inline 300 in the back of an Altima? Daaaamn..
-
Yea the 300 had the head removed, but would have still fit with roping down the trunk lid ;D. I measured the 2.0 and manual trans and got about 55" long and about 24.5" wide (motor with intake and exhaust).
-
55 long, and 24 wide? Being at the widest, would 12'' wide be a safe guess? [no exhaust, no intake]
Be a safe guess at around 25-30'' each?
Earlier somebody posted that total weight for the 2 would be around 350 lbs, does that sound right?
-
Not sure on the weight. 12" would still be to narrow with the distributor, oil filter and fuel pump still in the way.

ok, thanks guys! Now just gotta get the thing home.
