Way to polish exterior trim?
« on: October 13, 2016, 08:40:06 PM »
I am putting together my 1973 Runabout and my 1965 Plymouth Fury after painting. The trim is in good shape but a little dull.

I thought it was stainless but a body guy said most was aluminum by this date. My question is how to polish it to a high shine before putting it back on. A parts place sold me a cream called Formula 7 compound to hand buff the metal, but the result is less than spectacular.

Do any of you use a buffing wheel to shine trim? If so what polishing compound do you use, and applied with what sort of wheel?

I'd like to know too.  My dad told me that even brand new the aluminum was never super shiny.  He was a ford dealer mechanic.

I don't know. The OEM Pinto door edge guards I just bought on E-Bay were extremely shiny.
