Neat looking wagon.  I also liked the '52 Plymouth Cranbrook I noticed as I scrolled down.  The very first car I ever bought was a '53 Cranbrook which was a totally different body style than the previous year, but it still brought back some memories.  The one I had was in about the same condition as the one in the ad.  I paid $50 for it in 1971 when I was thirteen.  A friend and I worked on it for three years and finally sold it for $500, about $200 of which was profit.  That money went into the purchase of my first real (as in, I could drive it - lol) car: a brand new orange 1974 Pinto Runabout.

Great page Dick. Also, about 9 posts down is a beautiful photo of Wendell Scott and his bonifide, (IMHO),  Ford NASCAR "stock car".  To hear a field of those old big block monsters going by wide open!

It's virtually identical in every respect except that it has an automatic transmission, whereas my original one was a four-speed.  Not expecting to get it here until sometime next year.  I actually bought it in May of 2016 and have spent about $8000 on it "long distance".  Yes, I am definitely excited!  It looks just like Joe Escobar's sans modifications.

When I was racing down south, every one knew Wendell Scott at that time. That picture was made around 1967 and it looks like a stock Fairlane with decals. Best memory of him was at a cup race in NC, where he would get out of the car at each pit stop to help his kids do their work. He would lay down on the ground and look at the tires to see how much longer they would last. Drink a coke, and go back in the race. BTW that lean too behind the car was his only shop. He and his wife / kids lived in the house behind the lean too. A very long time ago in a period of time that will never be again. His grave is in Danville, VA, along with a major street name after him. RIP

Do you know where in Danville?  My in-laws live there and we visit several times a year.  I wouldn't mind going by his grave.

I've never been to Danville so I'm only going by what I've read. Get a copy of the movie Greased Lighting. It's sorta true and funny about his life. Richard Pryor and Pam Greer are the stars.
