I recently bought a 1974 Mercury Bobcat (I think) but the VIN plate missing (its just a drag car); did Ford stamp the VIN number into the body anywhere?
I think I read somewhere that Ford stamped the VIN into the fender and/or firewall on mustangs.

From what I understand, the 74 Bobcat was sold in Canada first before it was introduced in 75 in the US. Canadian VIN could have been different compared to US VIN. I saw a 74 Bobcat once online. The guy was parting it out, and it looked perfectly fine.

Not sure on a Bobcat but would assume they did like was done on the Pinto. The 2 pictures are a 74 Pinto. Both the left and right rail have the number stamped. You would have to pull a fender to find it. It is not a complete VIN but would be enough to identify the car.

The dash should have a tag visible through the windshield on the lower, drivers side. Being you have a drag car that might have been removed. There was also a sticker on the door jamb. If not hopefully you can find the stamping mentioned above.

Thanks for the info, unfortunately the rad support was removed and and the sticker is missing off the door jamb too.

The original rad support is also gone.

If you are still around, I was wondering if you have any more pictures of the car.
My 79 is similar in that the car has been caged and no fenderwells/radiator support.
I'm interested in how the po mounted the radiator and the fenders.
What is that sheet metal just forward of the radiator?
And did they use a racing dash or did they modify the stock dash to fit around the roll cage?
My car was never intended to be a full on race car, but the po lost interest pretty much after he paid to have it caged, so I am picking up where he left off, only I have to figure this out myself.

The OEM dash is gone in my car; the previous owner built a new dash out of aluminum, its attached at the base of the windshield and 2 supports coming off the fwd rollbar.
