Title: using 8" rear end with factory parking brake cables.
Post by: dennisofaz on May 20, 2013, 05:53:28 PM
Hi, i recently purchased an 8" Mustang II rear end and i have a question.  Will the parking brake cable from a 6 3/4 rear end fit properly into the 8" rear backing plates?  Many years ago did this swap and ran into this issue if the cable mounting hole being too big for the Pinto cable.  If they do not fit then can I get Mustang II cables and make the transition at the parking break main cable?

I was always told it's the same cable regardless of which rear you run.

I can't remember what I did when I performed my 8" swap.   I can tell you that although the rear drums have the same brake diameter, the center hole for the 6-3/4" is too small.

Thanks Guys!  I found MII & Pinto parking brake cables at Rockauto and if need be I can use the MII cables into the rear end and make the connection at the parking brake.

The MII cables are 104 3/4" long and the Pinto is 110" long so i would have to extend the pull cable ~3" to reach the shorter MII cable.
