transmission swaps
« on: February 05, 2013, 02:10:51 AM »
I finally found a local Pinto after selling my other baby like an idiot.
Its a 2L engine with a manual transmission. Transmission looks like it was made out of legos and a pissed off 4 year took a hammer to the inside.

Anyway I have access to a 92 v6 mustang, but the transmission is a c4 auto. Easy transfer over as far as fit wise? anyone know?

never done a transmission swap and would like some insight please and thank you
This Pinto is no push-over so park it while I punch it off the line and watch you poop your self...

92 Mustangs did not have a C-4 unless it was swapped in to the Mustang . It's an A4ld etc based on the C-3. Check to make sure. If it's a C-4 the bell will not fit unless you find a C-4 bell housing, flex plate, converter for the 2.0 etc. Pretty pricey. What year is the Pinto ? Good news however is that are allot of 4 speeds around to get parts to rebuild the 4 speed. It will be allot cheaper .The 4speed in the Pinto 2.0 and the 2.3 should be the same and rebuilds are not to expensive or finding a good one. One more thing is that the Merkur XR4ti 5 Speed (should) bolt onto the 2.0 bellhousing as it's the same as the 4 speed but it has an overdrive added.

yeah no the 92 mustang was a drag car but its now retired since the engine was put in another body. Well with everything I see here Ill just start rebuilding it. Or rather start to, get pissed off, let it sit for a month and pay someone else to do it. I can see the future.

thanks for your info none-the-less.
By the way the pinto is a 78, I like the round look myself, wont personally go with a 79 or 80.

what exactly do you have?  if the pinto is a 78 it def doesn't have a 2.0 L in it unless that too was swapped in as the 2.0 was dropped after 74.  that said if it is a stock 2.3 find a t5 out of a 4 banger fox mustang pref 89 and newer as they are all w/c past that point. The merkur trans mentioned above is known as the T9 and is basically the pinto hummer with a 5th gear tacked on. It will bolt in with the added bonus of not having to trim the shifter hole to get it all to fit.
Modest beginnings start with the single blow of a horn man..    Now when you get through with this thing every dickhead in the world is gonna wanna own it.   Do you know anything at all about the internal combustion engine?

Hey Troll if you're sure you have a 2.0 ? If you do , I have a 2.0 bell for a C-4. Not modded for the 2.3 .
