Title: Transmission modulator valve/ vacuum question

I'm wanting to put a new one on my 76 2.3 automatic, but napa has one with a red stripe a yellow stripe and a green stripe. The one on my car now has NO stripe.....wha t gives??

The one you have may be adjustable, look on the very end and see if you have a small screw half sticking out , the stripes are for different shift points due to different reared ratios,those are non adjustable  , (engine loading =high or low manifold vacuum)  if you use the wrong one you may end up with a early or late up shift , they have a calibrated spring inside , stiff spring late shift , soft spring early shift

Also check the pin they come different lengths, 1 1/2 to 1 5/8", short pin early shifts, long pin later shifts, you can make them out of 8D nails and experiment with them. If you have a screw in Mod I believe the min length is 1 5/8 and max is 1 3/4", if my feeble mind remember right..
