Tire/wheel(rim) size recommendations-15 inch diameter
« on: October 13, 2018, 04:58:26 AM »
Looking probably at either 7 or 8 inch wide rims, but that is part of my question.
I don't want skinny tires. I would even go up to 10 inch wide in the rear. But I won't do air shocks anymore to clear wide tires.  :o And I don't want to be rubbing the fenders all the time. Or even part of the time. Rolling the rear wheel lips is possible, but I may be going with fiberglas at some point in front, can't roll that too well.  ::)
The front of the car is pretty open. No fender wells/inner fenders.
I will be converting to 5lug if that makes any difference and will be going with 4 wheel disc brakes.
So 15 is the smallest I can go.

I could maybe be talked into going with 16 inch rims, maybe. Not thrilled about the thought though. I'm an old guy  :-X with old school (1970's) ideas on what a car should look like. I've seen some 16 inch tires that don't look horrible, but I hate the rubber band look that most bigger ones have.

So after all that,  ;D does anyone have any recommendation s for what has worked for them?

Thanks,
Russ

You can put ten inch wide tires in the rear without hitting anything, had L60/14s on the back of my pinto wagon back in the mid 70s , they are what you call 265/60/14 today , pintos came with huge fenders and skinny 13s look s small on them , I have 205/60/15s all around and are 8.1 wide , clears the front well but still have plenty of room in the reat for more , I like the old school slots , but make sure you choose the right wheel back spacing for the tire to fit well in the center of the rear wheel well ,

Thanks.
I've just been doing some research on determining the size you can use, and I guess I had better wait until I get the new brakes on, as I think that will change the numbers a bit.
I had L60 15s on my 69 Mustang in 76/77. I also had to use air shocks and shackles. Oh, well, I was only 16/17.
