Title: Tips on changing a heater core in an A/C car?
Post by: powderblue76 on December 03, 2013, 08:49:53 AM
Hello all...
Just got the '76 back with a caved in roof and a DOA heater core and fuel pump.
While in the care of a buddy some punks used the car to get onto, and then jump off of a roof.  :o
Fixable, but still a hanging offense IMHO.  >:(
Now....any tips on R/R ing a heater core in a 2.3 A/C car?
ANY help would be great.
Went to A***Zone and they can't even get a heater core.
O'R**llys has one for 45 bucks.
Whew....
Thanks,
Mike

The whole heater box has to come out and apart.

Allow me to re-phrase... ;D
Any tips on avoiding "running the car off in the pond" aggravation when removing said heater box?
Any extra "niceties" to look forward to, it being an A/C car?
Thanks,
Mike

Mike, it is a PITA but it's not really hard to do, mine isn't an actual A/C car but it had an add on unit so it is different, but looking at the manual it's pretty much the same just more duct work and controls to take out, just take your time and pay attention as you take it apart take some pics as you go along if you're not sure and you'll be ok.

I was afraid I would get those two responses...  ;D
I will pull the passenger seat too.
Patience? Fat chance of that.
This is the weekend I get to work on it, and the weekend North East Texas turns into Wisconsin.
We (the Pinto and I) will be tucked up tightly to the shop heater.
Digital camera will be put to good use.
Now that I have the car back for good, what is/are the BEST manual(s) to get?
Thanks for the help.

Ford factory manuals are the best.

Got the fuel pump changed, hits on first crank, when the starter works.....just started to malfunction.
Now I have to change the starter as well as the heater core.

Test the starter before you change it  might be the solenoid after all....As for the heater core remove all that is in the way both seats if possible, etc....

D.R.....
I JUST thought of that this week at work.
If i do have to change it, do i REALLY have to undo half the undercarriage,  remove the left tail light and muffler bearing AND drain the blinker fluid as the Great Seers of Chilton advise?
