A4LD ??
« on: October 16, 2012, 09:16:13 AM »
Dose any one know where I can get my hands on  A4LD trans. I want to put it in my 77 cruiser wagon I drive on the highway and an overdrive would be nice. It didn't have to be built just something I can start with

here is a bit of info on the transmission.  to get one i suggest going to a pick a part auto wreckers and get one from a bronco or ranger.

do these bolt up or will you need to find a different bell housing?

You can change the bellhousing on the A4LD, you'll need to find a bell from a 2.3 or 2.5 Lima engine, the tranny can be from any engine as far as I know, stick with a early one, 80's to early 90's, not sure what years had gear selectors for 1,2,drive and overdrive and what years had OD activated by 12Volts, you can also apply lockup using a 12volt toggle.   Look for Turbo coupes, XR4TI's, 4 and 6 cylinder mustangs, rangers, and bronco's.
you'll also need to modify the tranny mount, early 2.3 pinto flex plate should work, and lastly the A4LD yoke will be needed.

As far as I know XR4TI's came with C3's  I do not think the A4LD came in them.

Second on the Merkur XR4ti having the C-3. Try 1987-1988 Ford Thunderbird Mustang, Ranger etc..... Simple way to check is check the shifter if it says O.D.on the gear selector that's what it is.....If not it's not an A4LD.
