Throwout Bearing....Zerk Fitting or not?
« on: November 05, 2011, 08:23:16 AM »
I'm thinking my throwout bearing is bad. Going to pull tranny and replace all of the parts of the clutch including the pilot bearing. Also doing a little fixing of the gearshift and corresponding shaft. Have a couple things to toss out to the group. Can I get a zerk-fitted throwout bearing for my setup? (1973 2.0 motor and tranny) and does anyone know the proper name, and possibly have a connection for, the "cap" that screws on the top of the tranny where you would access the shifter parts? It seems like it is a plastic open "ring" with little flanges sticking off of it like a sun. If I were to pull the shaft that the shifter rides on, I'd need to remove this ring/nut first. Wondering what it is called and if anyone has a spare. Thanks for any help.

You dont want a zerk on a throwout bearing. The excess grease would end up contaminating the clutch & causing headaches.
