Title: This might piss some off
Post by: wedge446 on June 16, 2012, 09:57:51 AM
I have a 75 wagon Ive been tinkering with for the past 3 or 4 years,, So far I have had to replace the head gaskets(2.3) 3 times and decided to build a 2.3 turbo for it. It seems everytime I start working on it some little thing shuts me down from working on it.
I only have the weekends to work on it and this weekend a little fitting has shut me down. Its the turbo oil return fitting that goes into the block. No where to be found local..

HERE IS THE QUESTION:
Here is the bad part(for some)I think Im going to drop a small block mopar in there and be done with it..
Has it been done before? If so, I would like to learn from there work.

Before some of you start saying Im just a kid not knowing what Im doing here is a little of my background.
48yo and started building cars  at 16yo. Ive worked as a heavy equpt tech for 20years and a hold a master ASE in auto and heavy equpt. Ive started welding at 19yo(self tough) and Im a hobby machinist for 17years (just got a new to me millrite mill)

you do know you could just block off the hole in the side of the block and weld a new easier to find fitting on the oil pan and make a new and alot more free flowing return line.
As for the Mopar in a pinto Im sure it has been done almost everything has so do what yah like and know.

I thought about doing that but I would have to remove the pan, grind the new paint off, take it to work to weld it(my welders up there) make a new line then put it all back together then repaint.

On the mopar install my main questions are oil pan(front or rear sump) and exhaust clearance.

I say "right-on".  Rework the firewall, slide the engine back for balance, go rear sump,  get some shortie headers and  dump them out the front and back under the cross member . It won't be a "bolt-in" but sound like fun.

 Why not something like this

But I liked what Jim said having the engine set back sounds good.

I'm all for something different...bu t any V8 conversion will be VERY time consuming...fi xing that oil line problem is way faster and more rewarding...ju st my .02 worth after doing a 289 swap and getting burned out on it. The car is now for sale.

Go to any good parts counter they should have the fitting or look on Turboford.org web site look in the vendors section and replace all of the lines I think Stinger sells them.
