Tbird turbo T3 replacement???
« on: June 18, 2012, 09:24:45 PM »
My turbo is tired and I'm thinking I need to replace it. I currently  running a stock T3 from an 85 2.3l turbo coupe.  I  want to go with  a new one ,   I've been eyeing the new replacement ones on Ebay, Anyone ever use one of these,  What are the pros and cons of these  OR  should I have the original rebuilt?     I'm also looking for an E6 2.3l SVO exhaust manifold if anyone has one. I've been told that they (flow) best as far as exhaust manifolds go from the factory .  Suggestions and comments apreciated.

how 5 headed do you want to get?   turbo coupe is prob a .48 exhaust.   a step up would be a .63 with a super 60 compressor . next step would be a .48 stage 3 or .63 with a t04e 50 on the cold side.

As for the chinachargers. YMMV If it is just a boneyard block and head sure grab one, put an oil restricter on the feed line and tell us how it works. Some people have had success with them others blow shizod up...  again may be the turbo may be the tune or the civic to which they where attached... If you are happy with the boost you have now and are reasonably handy with a wrench and the wheels are not yet eaten then the cheap solution would be to buy a good rebuild kit and do the seals and bearings in the one you have now.   I have tinkered with some of the china stuff. THere are some good products out there if you try hard enough and find the actual manufacturer.  I found a Greddy s type bov copy that has a way better diaphragm than the original while most of the ones out there are using what looks like inner tube.  Again YMMV.

Buy a header.

Modest beginnings start with the single blow of a horn man..    Now when you get through with this thing every dickhead in the world is gonna wanna own it.   Do you know anything at all about the internal combustion engine?

TO4E50 is a real nice upgrade.

A RFE6 flows better than a E6.
It was a replacement manifold
and can be found with a little searching.

Rebuild the current turbo into the T-3/T-4 Hybrid and do not waste your money on eBay turbos. The turbo is easy to rebuild just you tube the how to video. As for the E-6 the only down fall on any stock cast iron manifold are cracking not flow numbers.
