T5 Swap Trans Mount
« on: November 17, 2015, 09:51:38 AM »
I am in the process of doing a T5 trans swap in my 72' 2.0 car. I need help with the rear trans mount. Some out there are saying they used a C4 bracket to bolt to the trans and the C4 mount. Using the stock crossmember turned around and elongating the holes. Does anyone have pictures of the parts used? Thanks! - Dave

Dave,
Here are the pictures.  Not too much, but all I have.  As I said before, I'm not sure if I had to enlarge the holes that bolt to the transmission or not. I know when I did the swap I had the mentality that if I slotted all the bolt holes it would allow for placement flexibility.  The crossmember is reversed and slotted (all the way back).  I've also included a picture of the bracket to offset the clutch cable that elevates it over the crossmember. Most have found this necessary. Update: I included a picture of the installation.

Some had recommended Dave use the Turbo Coupe mount. I could not find a way to make it work (seemed too big). If any of you have I'm sure he (and I ) would appreciate what you did.

It's going to depend on which transmission mount you use.

My '72 originally had a single-bolt mount. When I put an '86 Thunderbird 2.3T/T5 in it, all I had to do was elongate the stock crossmember bolt hole without reversing the crossmember.
'72 Runabout - 2.3T, T5, MegaSquirt-II, 8", 5-lugs, big brakes.
'68 Mustang - Built roller 302, Toploader, 9", etc.

I used a 1990 Mustang 2.3 trans mount. Basically if you don't care if your engine is father forward there is no modifications necessary just push the whole trans and engine forward. You will need to loosen the nuts on the motor mounts. But I don't recommend that I would get a drill and drill 2 holes in your  trans mount. In my car I pushed the bell housing all the way to the fire will trying to get as much weight to the back of the car as possible. Hey Paul I didn't help too much but it's the thought that counts

Mine is the old C4 mount from my 79 F150 with a rectangular box made from steel. No bolt hole slotting & works great.

A word of caution: With a 71-73 and a 2.3 swap the room is very limited for the forward movement - and I tried to get everything back as far as I could go.
