T5 swap???
« on: November 08, 2006, 10:23:35 PM »
I want to put a T5 into my Pinturbo but need to know what parts to get. I will be getting the T5 out of a 4cyl Mustang. I want to know what driveline/axle to use and tranny mounts. I have read all the faq that has to do with the swap and have only half answers. One guy figured out the wagon but none seem to have definative answers on the sedan. My car is a 1980 with the turbo already installed a nd rippin it up but the 4 speed is slowing me down and 4th gear is mostly useless. I am installing water injection this weekend and want to get the T5 in the next. Any info would be great. Thanks.

Hello 2point3turbo,
 I use the T5 from a 1987 Mustang.
Please check my topic T-5 install-rebuild. I will give it a bump so it is easy to find.

HI 2P0INT3TURBO

I HAVE SOME INFO THAT MIGHT HELP YOU OUT, AS I SWAPED A C3 AUTO
FOR A MUSTANG T5 IN MY 80 PINTO.

I USED THE ORIGINAL TRANS MOUNT & MODIFIED THE CROSSMEMBER BY
CUTTING THE REAR FLANGE & FLATTENING THE TOP TO GAIN THE 1 7/16"
REAR SPACING OF THE MOUNTS 2 BOLTS.  I THEN REINFORCED THE EDGE AS
IT WAS ORIGINALY. THIS HAS WORKED VERY WELL FOR ME. IF YOU HAVE ACCESS TO SOME SHEET METAL & A MIG WELDER THIS THE LEAST EXPENSIVE
WAY TO GO.  HOPE THIS HELPS

4th gear is the same, 1 to 1.

All the info that is needed for the swap is there, I don't know what else you would need.

What driveline should I use with this? Maybe I missed a bunch of info on here but I searched and also weeded through the FAQ to get the answer but all I could see was people saying "all the info you need is here or there" without actually just stating the info. I am going to track down the 86 mustang and get the tranny and bell, should I get the driveline as well? I have read on other sites that foxbody drivelines are what I need. Thanks again.

Hello 2point3turbo,
 When you say drive-line?
 Do you mean drive shaft?
If so, I used the Aluminum one from Ford Motorsports.
The one that fits the Fox body mustang.
Sorry I do not have the part number.

Hello 2point3turbo,
Also I have read here on the Ford Pinto board that IF you can find the aluminum case 4 speed. "MEMORY" :hypno:
Borg warner T4????  That is the bell house to use for the 74-80 Pinto.
This bell can be found on 79 mustang
Again I have not tried this combo. Just info passed along.

2.3t: It was me that said the info is there (because I put it there), and for the driveshaft too. What else do you need? Let me know I will see what I can do.

Tony: The D-9 bell was on the 79-80 Fox bodys with the 4spd T-4.

BTW: I have an alum. case T-4 for sale, sorry, no D-9 to go with it, but I will include a bell-crank style bell and a good shifter I just got at a swap meet a few days ago. $100. plus shipping.
