T5 install?
« on: February 26, 2007, 12:00:54 AM »
I finally got around to putting in the T5 and new turbo today. The only problem I had was the drive line universal joint. On the stock rear end it has a much smaller u-joint on it and want to know how to remedy this. The Mustang has a 3 6/8" and the Pinto has 3 3/8" joint. These are not exact measurements but they are comparisons to the outside for reference. Is there a joint that is smaller on one side that I could buy to make this work?

Check out this conversion U-joint made by FRPP to see if it is what you are after: http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=FMS%2DM%2D4635%2DA&N=700+115&autoview=sku

Also I believe there are a couple lengthy past threads on T5 drive shaft installations.  The search function should find them.

I used the driveshaft from an 84 turbo gt stang, with the front yoke from the T/C donor, and a Pinto rear u-joint. The Pinto rear u-joint has two diferent size caps, the larger of the two pairs fit into the axle yoke, the smaller fit the shaft. The u-joints on all the 6.75" Pinto rears, and all the 8" rears are the same. Some people have used the fox-stang rear u-joint not knowing about the size difference and have not had any issues, but I would not do it.
