Title: Sway bar help..
Post by: Rob3865 on February 19, 2017, 01:44:00 PM
Will the rear sway bar from a Mustang II fit on a 1976 Bobcat?  I have an 8" Mustang II rear axle under it now with the Mustang II shock plates. I think it will fit, but I am not certain. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

It will fit just fine. The Mustang II and the Pinto's are the same at the rear end except for the shock mount (which also is the sway bar mount). If you don't have the rest of the sway bar links / bushings / etc they are easy to make. The parts don't need to be a carbon copy to work. As you know the shocks are different between the two cars in the way they mount at the spring perch. If you attach the sway bar links to the frame as a Mustang II does you'll have no problem's but if you attach the links to the floor boards like an ADCO bar does, you must reinforce the floor boards or they will crack with use. Frame mount is best with a Mustang II bar. Hope this helps. Is this a racer of any kind?

No sir, not a race car. I am over all of that by about 30 years. It is going to be a V8 car though. Mild GT40P roller engine, T5 transmission, 3.40 gear set. Just something fun for an old man to knock around on the street.

I think I have just decided to just pull the stops out and get the Addco bars front and rear. Finding used ones is tough and and when found people think their 40 year old crap is gold plated.

I don't think a ADCO bar will clear the oil pan on a V-8 Pinto. The Mustang II one inch front bar is made to clear the pan, but hard to find. ADCO should know. I would use both front and back bars from a V-8 Mustang II because a V-8 Pinto will never handle. Most have no bars at all, as there being used mostly for straight line driving. Do a search on here to see what others have done.

I found a rear bar from a Rustang II. Thanks for the advice. Now to find a front.
