Title: Swapping to a Turbo Coupe Engine
Post by: righthandman on March 23, 2014, 12:58:35 AM
Okay Guys here it is. I've got a 77 with a 2.3 with air & a C3 that I want to change to a 2.3 turbo and a C4 and keep the air. I have an either 87 or 88 Turbo Coupe donor car that has a 5 speed and a early C4 and bell housing that was bolted to a 2.0.
I will probably be needing lots of help, but just for starters with the ign. is there just a couple of wires that I need to hook-up or am I putting the computer in the car? What other parts am I going to be needing?
Things I know of is:  ... high pressure inline fuel pump
...flywheel or flex plate 2.3 to c4
...anchor kit thing for the 2.0 bell to work on 2.3
...turbo intercooler (is there one from another vehicle that will fit with
                                      my ac condenser)
...will I be able to use either ac compressors
What else am I going to need?
Thanks in advance for any help you can be.

Couple of wires, that's pretty funny......... ...you'll need entire PCM and wiring for all sensors. All harnesses necessary.

Probably not answering all your questions, but hopefully a few:

There are others who have posted similar.  Search and see what you find.  Your car being a '77 (not 71-73) makes the swap easier.  A/C will add complication.

Front mount Intercooler is a must.....

A front mount intercooler is desirable, but given his plans for A/C, auto trans (and thus possibly a trans cooler) - and perhaps the need for a pusher fan there likely is not room.  The stock 87-88 intercooler works if he has to use it, all be it with a hood scoop.  In the end it will probably be a trade off of losing one thing and gaining another.  I get the impression this is more a daily driver than a race car.

Thanks guys, Wittsend that is a great little write-up on the swap. Thanks for showing me that. I'll keep looking for info on the wiring part as I get time. I'm thinking that is going to be the hardest part for me
