Hi I'm building a 1980 v8 pinto. I like the look of the old pintos with round lights and skinny bumpers. My question is... Can I use the front end of a 1976 fenders,Hood etc with the bumper from a 1971-73
-
It's been done... but it will take a little fabricating, ingenuity, and creativity. If that's the look you want, go for it!!!

Doing the same to my 79 cruze wagon , but I like the 76 grill and the old look , not done yet but I used 76 fenders , along with the hood ,(you can use the stock hood release ) 71 to 73 did not have the hood release and the hood will not fit right because the radiator support is move a few inch,s forward , I am using the 77/78 front bumpers because I have them and very light , you can use the skinny ones but will have to make brackets to hold them, and the tail lights you will have to use the larger 77/78 tail lights , the 76 to 71 down the holes are smaller where the bolt too,

And other body parts I like to swap old be my whole body , swap my 62 year old fat body with grey hair wrinkles here and there for a 25 year old body , blue eyes , and comes with a huge bank
account, just wishing guys :o

This restoration includes a photo essay on a 74 to 71-73 bumper (and related parts) swap. The whole piece is interesting but the bumper aspects starts about a third of the way down. http://www.joe-escobar.com/pinto.html

This brings back memories, do remember the rear leaf springs do hit the lower valance and the radiator surport too , but always liked the pencil bumpers,

Thanks guys for all the info. 8)

Mr Pinto did the swap. Here is his build thread -> http://www.fordpinto.com/index.php?topic=5973.msg39914#msg39914

So, he starts this project after a 4 year wait in late 2006. By 2008 the car is done and tested. Then it isn't until 3 years later he posts again. Shortly thereafter the thread dies 4-1/2 years ago.
Hey, is this my wife's project? It take carbon dating to track her progress. ;D
-
Yep , I got a few of those projects that need carbon dating to figure out when I last worked on them ;D

Crack me up ;D
Sort of how I feel about the "6 month" down time I had planned for my white car....... now in year 5 ?

Then there is this. My Sunbeam Tiger. I bought it in 2000 and had a two year plan. I haven't worked on it since 2004 (already double the years behind schedule). It seems to be moving at a glacial marathon pace. Oh well, the Turbo Pinto is to blame for some of that lost time. :)

Sometimes they DO take a while... ::)

I've dreamed about owning a Tiger since seeing one at Cayuga race track in the 70s !
Get that thing done !

That is sweet..

They are nice cars , last year they had two of them when we had cruzing the coast , this one had the hood open , he had a ton of chrome , bet you like to have the air cleaner mr reeves!
-
Actually..., when originality counts the Tiger factory oval air cleaner (which is just two stamped steel halves) sold/sells for about $600! And that was prices based on 10+ years ago. With pristine Tiger's having gone from the $40k-$60K range up to the $100k-$120K range they might be worth a whole lot more now. Same goes for the fan shroud and the remote radiator tank. Since I only paid $3,500 for the car itself I commented to the Tiger crowd that just those few items represented about a third of what I paid for the car.
1. Engine compartment at point of purchase. 2. Car with much sheet metal removed (replacing front clip) - ya, its been a "project."
