Sunvisor Rod Install 79Bobcat

I just ordered the the replacement rods from ssc for my 1979 Bobcat. Is the rod 1 whole piece into the bracket or is the rod separate from the bracket? Basically I'm asking (before I wreck the original) can I not just pull the old rod out somehow? maybe a video somewhere?
