Title: Stock/Custom gauge set ups
Post by: Rooftop Rocket on February 20, 2013, 04:05:45 PM
Looking for ideas on different gauge set ups(Oil Pressure/Water Temp). The little rinky-dink gauges that the previous owner have added are just not gonna cut it. Not to mention that they mounted them under the glove box area. Needless to say its unsafe to check them while driving, unless there is a passenger, lol.

Also, what model's came with a factory tach? And is that a some-what easy swap with the gas gauge/warning lights, like on my model?

Has anybody tried an aftermarket tach in the factory hole?

Anyway, lets see some pics!  8)

Factory tach was in Cruising Wagons, Rallye's & some sport packages.

I have white face 3 3/8" Stewart Warner speedo & tach & 2 1/16" volt, oil press, water temp, air/fuel, fuel level & boost for my wagon.  I plan to put the speedo & tach in place of the stockers. They will fit but it will take some fab work. The rest will be mounted like 78starsky did. Pinto guys have been doing it this way forever.

I replaced all the plastic with black walnut, (used the factory part of the old gauge set) monster tach will mount just to the right of the dash ridge. there are a few more pic's in my gallery.

I'm just going to remove the counsel tray and fab up a three sided box. I can even retain the stock Heater A/C controls. I'm using 2 1/16 size gauges just the holy trinity for autos: oil temp ,oil pressure and coolant temp. It might hang a boost gauge some where else. Cutting on the dash just don't seem right to me....The tray is just plastic after all. The Mustang II center counsel has a large a storage area on it's own after all.

@78_Starsky I love your Pinto and your Bronco II! I had a Bronco like that a couple years ago except it was an 88.

We took out the vents above the glove box and installed custom guage pods angled toward the driver.  Center console in front of driver is a custom panel with tach and speedo and turn signals.

Inlaid the oil pressure and temp like many others. My dash pad was junk so i made some pod pieces from plack pipe that fit the tach and boost gauges then stretched it with fleece, glassed it and painted

Thanks guys! Good looking gauges! I have some good ideas now.

OhSix9, is your seat aftermarket or out of another car?
