Title: Stock oil sending unit help
Post by: Crazy Lacy on January 12, 2019, 06:17:13 PM
I was wondering if the oil sending unit wire is not hooked up to the gauge on the eng block,

Does the light on the dash gauge just won't light with the wire dangling.?

For 71-73 Pinto's, both the engine oil pressure and temperature sensors are connected to that instrument cluster light bulb.  The light bulb is lit by either senor creating a ground.  So the dangling oil pressure senor wire should not light the bulb but if the temperature senor is still connected, it might be the culprit (if there is no short).

I got pressure gauge with the copper oil line, but was thinking to just use the stock light set up. And just hook up the copper line pressure gauge to check pressure once in a while. I always worry about leaks on my carpet  :-\

I misunderstood what your concern was.  I have used both copper/nylon tubing to oil pressure gauges with no leaks.  But I have black carpet and a drop or two would not show up.  I have read some people using AN type armored lines in fear of a line burst spraying hot oil.  To avoid oil inside the passenger area, you could use a electric gauge.  I like using both the light to attract attention and a gauge to diagnose what is going on.

Friend if you don't want to use mechanical oil pressure DON'T they can get messy, if you need a pressure bulb (gauge), or unit (idiot light) I have several, or if you are considering a transformation, I have the 3 gauge cluster, and Tach/Odo if interested.... ..
