2.5 Liter Intake Concerns
« on: June 26, 2014, 10:12:50 AM »
I am getting ready to drop my new 2.5 into my Pinto, and I was thinking about the intake a little today.

I am running a Holley 390 CFM 4-barrel, on an Offenhauser intake. The motor is a 2.5 Liter from a Ranger with Hydrolic lifters and "D" intake ports.

My concern is that the intake has round exit holes (where it meets the head) and the head has "D" shaped intake holes. That means that the air / fuel mixture is going to hit a solid "step" when it tries to flow from the intake to the head.

I was wondering if there was anything I could do about it, short of grinding the intake ports on the head to make them round. Is there a better intake I can use that would still allow my 4 barrel to be used? Any advice?

Thanks!

Try esslinger they are the 2.3 and 2.5 N.A. guy's if they you do not know about you do not need to do it. On a 2.3 engine that is.

You pretty much hit the nail on the head with the resolution there. I would say run it like that but the bottom blocked and then part of the middle by way of the divider and more than just the bottom then. If the port was open with no manifold divider it'll run, just top end power will be down a bit.

You might be able to build a step up in the manifold with JB Weld and using a gasket as a template and form. Just an idea if you're creative and have the time. Good Luck

The motor is a 2.5 Liter from a Ranger with ...... "D" intake ports.

Wait, it has an actual d-port head, or it has the original 2.5 head?

The '98-01 Ranger 2.5 uses a completely different intake. Nevermind port mismatch; the bolt pattern is different too.
'72 Runabout - 2.3T, T5, MegaSquirt-II, 8", 5-lugs, big brakes.
'68 Mustang - Built roller 302, Toploader, 9", etc.

Not 100% sure what the head came off. The ports were D shaped and the Offenhauser intake matched right up. The head has hydraulic lifters too.
