« on: April 26, 2014, 04:40:35 AM »
A few years ago my dad putchased this pinto. 400 dollars with nothing wrong with it. No bad body runs like a 2012 decent interior nor broken glass a steal right?!. Well he goes to get it tagged and the catch comes its been salvaged.. he loves ot to death so hes taken every step he had to to get it back on the street well every step to pass breeaklight tail light inspection.. hes pretty much at the final steps except nin trying to get the fasten seatbelt lights going he cant find where the plug from the body plugs into?. The seat belts dont have a plug and neight do the seats?... any help would be very much appreciated.. by the the my names anthony and his is art. Were new to the board and im sure since the pinto is his "legal go kart" as he likes to call it well be here for awhile haha . Ill post some pictures in the morning

Remove the seats. Feel around the carpet directly under where the seat was. You should be able to feel a small lump, which will be the wire end(s).
There will be a small cut in the carpet. This is where it comes out.

Off the top of my head, I forget where it leads to.
Maybe to the front door post ? There is a hole there with wires & various connections.

Been a while since I tore Ugly Yellow apart. which had them.

Tip the seats over & you should see the wire....unless they were changed ?

My blue parts car doesn't have the wires etc. It was made in a different place.
White & blue cars have an "R" in the VIN. Made in the States.

Weve found the plugs when I pulled the seats out originally to put in my truck to add a smaller more stylish set of seats and I didnt remember unplugging anything. Now that im trying to rego with the ratrod look on the truck I put the original seats back in but I cant find a plug on the seats anywhere I look? Its driving my dad crazy lol

Is the seat belt light even part of the "salvaged" light check here in California?  It has been 20 years since I've been through that process but I recall them just checking the external running, brake, turn and headlights. The brakes they checked for leaks and sufficient lining.

Here in Texas that would not be a problem. Just don't mention it and see what they say. You can go to your state Dept. of Public Safety online or whoever does the inspection regulation and research whether the light is necessary in that state or not. You MUST have the belts and them working but not sure you have to have the light.

After having the same test done on my 1976 Ford Pinto wagon I'd say that the test did not include the seat belt light. Check with the State of California under Auto Repair or just go down and ask the place that will do the inspection. Note, not all places can do the test any more....You need look for the shield that says Brake and Light Test and are usually listed in the phone book separate from the other auto repair places (do they still use phone books ?)... A simple phone call should give you the answer from the guy's who are qualified to do the test...And not getting " I think you should do this" of which can be wrong......

When i redid my mustang following a wreck, they were concerned with looks of the brakes, line condition, all turn and running and headlights functioning. Dont recall anything to do with brake indicator light...
