Speedometer gears
« on: August 15, 2013, 02:49:59 PM »
I swapped my 6.75" rear for an 8" rear but didn't get the speedo gear from the donor car. The 6.75 had a 3.55 ratio and the 8 has a 3.00 ratio. Tires are stock size. What gear do i need and where can I get it?? I dont even remember what color the gear is now or what color the donor cars gear was.

The speedo gears are in the trans. How far off is the speedometer reading at 60? Increasing the number of teeth on the gear at the end of the cable will slow down the reading. Conversely, reducing the number of teeth will increase your reading. Basically, the change of one tooth will indicate a change in your reading of apx. 7mph.
