On mine, there is a white plastic collar with a tab on it. Push the tab in and wiggle and pull. Sometimes it slides right off, sometimes it takes some good jiggling.

I made a picture of the collar so you get an idea of what is is, you can barely see the thing back there, and it's awkward to get to. Like 76hotrodpinto said, push the tab and pull backwards, no turning (counter)clockwise or anything, it doesn't have thread.

At my oil age I find it easier to remove the seat and lay down and reach up behind the panel, and beware it's sharp in that spot , easy to do after you done it a few times , (tip is to hold your mouth a different way helps😁)

It has been my experience in life that holding your mouth differently almost always helps!  lol

look at the picture and see the lip on top .. if i remember correctly you will want to squeeze the plastic clip on both sides of the lip .. that will make the lip raise up a fraction and release  .. i dont want to prove my theory .. i like keeping my blood in my arms ...

I finally got it. I found that you need to stick your tongue out the corner of your mouth and grunt.

As an extra you have to cross your eyes just a tad , then you grunt, hope you did not leave any DNA on the back of the panel like I often do 😁

Good news! I personally use cussing and degrading statements about the cars heritage.

I have an old cluster with a piece of cable attached to it so I remember how they attach! Odd setup.
