Sounds like a problem...
« on: March 04, 2013, 09:49:13 PM »
Hey guys! I've not been on in a while but I'm still around. Busy busy haha. Anyways, the Pinto has developed a noise in the motor. It doesn't do it at idle but when I'm accelerating it sounds like someone is shaking rocks in a tin can in my motor. It's pretty darn loud too. I'm also burning quite a lot of oil and when I cut the motor off it acts like it's choking out.

So yeah, I think I  have some sort of problem.

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like timing, and bad gas. Does it run on when you turn the key off?

If the engine makes the noise under load, you may have piston-slap.  The first Pinto I had years ago developed that and the only thing that fixed it was a new engine.  I was using about a quart of oil every 200 miles.

@tbucketjack It doesn't really run but it doesn't go right it. It just chokes out til it goes off. Sometimes it takes a few seconds. Sometimes it's only a couple.

74pintoguy: That's about how much I'm burning. Maybe a little more.
