Title: smog pump removal?
Post by: JonzWagon on April 10, 2016, 08:36:14 AM
Hello! I need some advice.  I have a '80 wagon, a California car which has been smog legal its whole life.  I recently relocated to North Carolina where my car no longer needs to pass a smog check or inspection. My question...... ..how difficult would it be to remove the smog pump and related "stuff"---------and would it be worth the trouble.  The old wagon only has 55K miles on it and runs very good, so maybe I should leave it alone??  Any comments would be welcome.  Thanks in advance.  John :) :)

Like I always say, if it ain't broken, tear it down and modify it heavily! But that's just me. I would say with that low of mileage, just leave her alone.

To remove it is very straight forward, just remove all of it and seal the exhaust port. Won't make a difference in performance, just unclutters the engine bay a little, and eliminates more possible worn parts.
