Title: Side draft intake
Post by: stonhed18 on August 31, 2018, 04:54:28 PM
Using a duel side draft intake that blocks off the water jacket from the head. Getting some leakage. Has anyone had the same issue and solved it?

When I built my manifold I just drilled the mounting plate and tapped it to accommodate a 3/8"  rass pipe fitting so I could maintain the original heater water outlet. I tapped out a custom gasket from 1/16" grey Felpro gasket material and sealed it with black silicon.. no leaks so far..

I’ll try the custom gasket. The fitting is an issue. The runners on the intake angle back and upward interfering with alignment of the port. Thanks for the advice!

Have you had much experience with webbers?  Ive heard they are difficult to tune.. thats why i went with SU HIF s  only one needle per carburetor  and you can custom taper it with a hand drill and some 400 grit emory paper..

Also have you used a small wrench to tap out a gasket?

No this is the first I’ve used any side draft. They seem to be working well.

Here are some pix of the manifold i built and the gasket altbough the gasket doesnt have the hole for the water port cut out yet..  the red line points to the water port. Also a detail of how I c9nnecter the water outlet to the heater. Note the tee with a connection allowing a mechanical temp sensor...
