Shorten the FOG 4sp output?
« on: December 24, 2015, 01:47:58 PM »
I recently picked up a '74 2300 motor and trans for a microtruck re-power project. The motor is taller than I'd like, but I think I can deal with that - what has me completely stopped on using this donor is the enormously long output shaft on that FOG 4 speed. I've found nothing at all on anyone else wanting to shorten that output, nor have I been able to find much on transmission overall lengths.

I need to loose about a foot at bare minimum.

Anyone have an exploded diagram of the FOG?
Thoughts on a shorter transmission?
Experience hacking a foot of the output housing, shift rods, and mainshaft, and re-splining, drilling, and tapping it for a bolt on yoke? Hah.

Thanks,

If you have to knock a foot off of the trans you might as well use a different transmission, the trans you have now has the shifter built into the tail shaft , what you can do is buy the adaptor to use a old jeep transmission, the 2.3 was a good engine swap into the jeep back then, might want to check out a place called transdapet , they might still be around, hope this helps
