Anybody out there have a good recommendation for sport shocks I can Autocross with. I've added a 15/16 Bobcat sway bar and need some better shocks for cornering. Read shocks are Mustang II style (MII 8 inch rear) and the fronts are standard Pinto. I have a message into Racer Walsh.

fatmanfab.com they have an adjustable coil over that sits in the top spring hat and fits perfectly. i think you can get 1 and 2 way adjustable units.

Also total control products / chris alston chassisworks may be able to make up a set of custom length ones for you. they build varishocks which are a kick a$$ product. I have them on the '69 in double adjustable trim

Just checked out the fatmanfab link. Pretty interesting. I did finally find some listings for Koni Classic adjustable shocks that are still available for the Pinto. I have MII shock plates on my 8" rear but could switch them back to regular Pinto plates.

i run prostock shocks, thats if you can handle stoopid stiff, compression and extension both are stiff, those shocks and good springs will make it handle better than a honda and miatas if you lower it and wide wheels, i promise

I drive this on the street. These California roads are so bad that I'd be bouncing like a low-rider with stiff shocks. I did find that Koni still has classic adjustable shocks for the Pinto. I may go that direction.

Can't have your cake and eat it both. Koni's have to be removed and fully extended to change the setting. I had two very large nails in the rafters that I hung the Koni's on, and them I would pull on the other end with all my weight to extend them. Not something you would like to do evertime you were going to race.

These, you mount the eyelet in a vise and push down and rotate to adjust them. I'd probably just set them to medium and be done with it. Not a serious racer, just for fun, and I'll be adding a sway bar in the rear as well to help.

Dont do it if your not serious! If you go autocrossing, and go half as quick as the rest, do you really want the same old "well its just a Pinto" from the other racers. Tires, wheels, big front sway bar, and shocks are what you need. And yes you have to compress the shock to adjust them, but then you have to extend them. Remember the two nails in my post!!! By the way, a rear bar is not worth the time as it hooks onto the floor boards, whick flex and soon or later will crack. AND LOWER THAT SUCKER!!!!! Been there/done that.

I actually got great response from the crowd the last time.....when I braked when I shouldn't have and hit a barrier. Learned my lesson! I went back out and did just fine considering the car had stock shocks and the skinny front sway bar. I have a 15/16" sway bar now from a Bobcat and if I added a rear bar I would add steel plates to reinforce the floor. This is a rust-free California car too. I'm not talking about serious autocrossing, just having some fun without breaking the car. They run a small Autocross at the Goodguys car shows, and people run all kinds of crap there! I'm getting smaller diameter tires as well, as the 14" ones I have are considerably larger diameter than stock, and raised the ride height. The car ran well for the 6000 mile Stampede last year.

205/60/14 fit real nice on 7" wheels. I cracked the floor boards on my SCCA Pinto race car and it was only a year old then(1981) Have fun!!!!
