2.0 timing belt tensioner
« on: January 13, 2009, 07:22:45 PM »
First I want to know if anyone has tried and had any luck replacing the bearing in the tensioner on a 2.0? Second are these still available and what might I expect to pay for the whole unit?

Thanks everybody, I drive by an Autozone on way to work, will stop in and see what kind of quality they are carrying. I turn this thing up past 7,000rpm at times and I don't need china shrapmetal flying around the engine compartment ;D

Hey,
Another option, BAT Ltd. (British American Transfer) in Florida. The online catalog for S2000 road racing engines (Pinto SOHC) shows a tensioner for about $40. It'll last!

Autozone.com Price 36.99 http://www.autozone.com/Ntt,Timing%20Tensioner/shopping/allResults.htm;jsessionid=40285C5E391B31FA9CA753E2BFDA8B08 hope this helps.

This comes up as drill bit and tap set ????? Don't know what it has to do with a tensioner. It is listed as a Comp Cam tensioner

I can't find it on rockauto. autozone doesn't have it. BAT has it  but its $70 O'Riley might have it as a special order still trying to find. But was wondering if anybody modified the 2.3 belt tensioner to work?

The tensioners can be made to be rebuildable, but it's not easy to do without access to a machine shop.  The "billet" aftermarket ones for 2.3s are simply stock brackets with a different wheel and axle that can be bolted together.
