Title: Seat differences? 71-73 Pinto vs 71-73 Mustang
Post by: Marlin on April 18, 2014, 03:48:08 AM
I'm curious to know if there are any differences between the thin high-back seats in 71-73 pintos and seats in 71-73 mustangs. They both look identical to me, but I have not been able to find any info to verify if this is true.

The reason why I'm asking is because I need to get my seats reupholstered. I can purchase reproduction mustang seat skins/covers at a reasonable price here: http://www.cjponyparts.com/tmi-premium-upholstery-standard-interior-1971-1973/p/U76-V/

The design in the centre of the seat is different from my pinto, but it would look great if they fit!

I'd love to know.

You know, that will make the 71 - 73 Mustang a POS now... LOL

How so Diane?

You're not dare insinuating that the pinto is a POS now are you? haha

I think the maverick might also have the same seats too.

There is a guy on facebook from Brazil I think that used a set of these covers on his. I can't find the pics but they did fit though the foam wasn't a perfect match under the vinyl. They looked pretty good on his.

You hit on it...the Mustang seats have thicker foam than the Pinto seats. A good shop can add more foam to fill out the covers better or you can buy new Mustang seat foam sets but they are pricey. Just make sure your Pinto foam is not breaking down because most are after 40 years. Turns to saw dust.

No, people consider the Mustang II a POS, so just joking about the whole Mustang II/Pinto thing really and saying the 71 to 73 Mustangs are using the same parts as the Pinto ;)

71 to 73 Mustang lower door hinges are the same as 74-up Pinto

I knew you were kidding ;) For the record I like the Mustang II, and I wouldn't kick a nice clean original one off of my driveway :)

Yikes! The seat foam is expensive! I couldn't imagine an upholstery shop charging that much to shape new foam.

I just discovered there are 3 different options for seat foam and upholstery for the mustang. The grande has thicker foam than the standard seat, and the Mach-1 has thicker side bolsters. So just to clarify, my question only applies to the standard base trim mustang upholstery.

Wish I knew, but I do want them to look the same in mine as factory!

Just a thought but maybe if you can get a deal on 73 Mustang seats with food foam & cover those you may save a bunch of money
