Pony needs a new transmission
« on: September 23, 2012, 09:03:55 AM »
Hello, I'm a new Pinto owner- I got a 79 pony 4cyl automatic  from Craigslist a couple weeks ago. All was going well until yesterday when I shifted from D to 2 to pass an RV going 40 (which I later learned you should never do). I didn't hear anything wrong, but when I tried to shift from 2 back to D the shifter wouldn't go all the way into D- I would have to push it forward to keep it in D or else it would go back to 2. After pulling over to see what was wrong I found that I couldn't shift up past 2- no D, N, R, P- so no starting w/out jumping it. So now, my mechanic says I need a new transmission but he doesn't know where to find one... So here I am.
Do any of you other pinto people out there know of any available transmissions or a good website to find one? Or any other tips/ recommendation s?

Might want to ask him about changing out the throttle body assembly if it is damaged.

What did he say was wrong with the transmission that you have?
