Running round belt on square tooth pulley?

Does it work?  On my son's mini stock pinto, have to use "stock appearing" cam pulley.  Got the "stock" one from Speedway, head is milled 115 thousands,  square belt seems to jump a tooth.

You have to use the right belt for the tooth profile.
'72 Runabout - 2.3T, T5, MegaSquirt-II, 8", 5-lugs, big brakes.
'68 Mustang - Built roller 302, Toploader, 9", etc.

DON'T do it............

The belt should not jump at all unless sprocket is heavy worn. Don't ever rotate engine backwards, it jumps that way.

If belt exposed to dirty air the sprocket WILL smooth all edges from friction wear to try to jump, I had one do it after running no belt cover on a stock streeter that ran that way for 2-3 years.
