rotors for 1980 Pinto

I have been told that I can put 5 lug rotors onto my 1980 pinto wagon.  Is this true or not true?             :mad:

If you can get ones with the same hub, you should be able to on the front.  Do you have a 5 lug rear axle?

Sure can if you buy the direct fit rotors that speedway sells they are just like stock but 5 lug now if your thinking more along the lines of granada rotors(11") they will bolt on but you have to use GM metric calipers and new calipers brackets all of which can also be bought from speedway.

Do the Granada rotors take the same wheel bearings (set-12 & set-13 I think) as the Pinto rotors?

I ordered a pair of Granada rotors YH141086 from Advance Auto online along with a couple Pinto wheel seals & spare oil filters to get my total after using promo code BIG35 over $75 to qualify for free shipping.
 
That gives me 11" 5 lug rotors for $35 each shipped to my door.
 
I have a set of Wilwood 4 piston calipers already that fit that rotor thickness so I'm planning to make my own caliper brackets to fit my 2" drop spindles. I already have the Timken wheel bearings (set 12&13) so all I need to do is make my caliper adapters.
 
You could buy the caliper brackets off Ebay if you wanna run the metric calipers. I'm betting I can get the metric calipers cheap through Advance too beating Speedways prices.

OK, I got curious & did some checking. Metric calipers are mid '80 GM S10 or Regal, Malibu etc. parts. Advance has 'em for $10 ea.+ $10 core but you can toss some old calipers in the boxes & get your core back. The hardware is included according to the website.
 
Brake pads are as cheap as $10 if you shop around. Inner & outer bearing sets with seals will set you back $20 for cheapies or about $35 for Timken or National if you are like me & want the best. The caliper adapters run from $30 a set shipped, $38 a set(Jegs) to $50 or more. Brake hoses are $10 ea.
 
This is my dry run at a setup from Advance. GM calipers, hoses & pads plus the cheap bearings & seals for the rotors using discount code BIG30 & after taking some junk calipers in as cores will come to just under $50 tax included. You will have to pick this stuff up at your local Advance to save shipping but mine shows it all in stock. You still have to order & pay online though to get the discounts.
 
The grand total:
 
Rotors, calipers, pads, hoses, bearings, seals & caliper brackets is $160 if you shop carefully & use discount codes at Advance. You will need to get banjo bolts if they dont come with the calipers & brake hose clips if they don't come with the hoses but thats it. 11" brakes 5 on 4 1/2" Ford pattern cheap.

Okay (I messed up, my pinto is an 80, my husband's is a 78) 
 
I check with speedway.  I'm not sure how but the guy confused me.  If I get the 9 1/4 rotors for the pinto, do I have to get a different braking system?

Pintos 74-80 all use the same brakes. If you get the 9 1/4 rotors they are direct replacements you don't have to change anything just bolt it on and the front of the cars now 5 lug.

I am looking to lower my car the right way.  My Uncle hacked up the springs on our CW back in the 80's.  I was thinking about doing the bigger brake kit as I plan on doing a turbo swap fairly soon.  Where did you find the drop spindles?  Are you happy with the swap?

I found mine on the clearance table at Summit but these are the cheapest on Ebay.

I haven't assembled mine yet. It's a winter project if I can find the time. The rotors came in last week so now I can assemble one & start on a cardboard template for my caliper brackets. I've worked 6 weeks without a day off so time seems to be my problem again.
