Weather is starting to cooperate here in Idaho. How the heck do you take the roof rack off in the center areas. I need to clean up the rust there now also.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Dianne,
There are short pins welded to the roof. Under the stainless strips there is steel sub-structure. The sub-structure has holes the pins go into. There are smaller slots cut to the holes. Once the pins are aligned with the holes the section is slid (forward, backwards - sorry, can't remember) over the pins. Even if the stainless looks good don't be surprised if the steel sub-structure is rusted.

I have to take mine off too, I can just imagine what it looks like under there..
-
Don't be surprised if that substructure crumbles to pieces when you try to remove them, I ruined several when looking for those strips in the yard back in the day. 'Course that'll show you which ones are good.......... ........

My 79 CW had two sided tape holding them on, used a thin putty knife. Bud

Thanks Dwayne, the Pinto is next. A way lot more to do before paint though, found way more really small crows feet, I should have had it sandblasted like someone here said :(
