Relocated Battery, Plus an Audio Upgrade
« on: August 10, 2013, 08:46:16 PM »
Did a little work today to relocate my battery, also making a new place to mount my speakers.

I ran 2 gauge battery cable from the solenoid into the cab (with a grommet) and into the back under where the rear passenger seat would go. I then mounted my ground for the battery and put the battery in and got it all connected. As you can tell, I have an opening in the top of my speaker box to get the battery in and out. There's going to be a + cut off lever under the dash as soon as it comes in.

Overall, a pretty easy project done for fairly cheap. Now to just fix that trashy battery rot under the hood   :-\

I did. There was one good door panel so I used it as a stencil onto some mdf and made the new ones. The coverings are like Navajo blankets.

On another note, if anyone needs a door panel stencil, I'd be happy to make them one just for shipping and mdf cost.

So you ran the + wire from the solenoid to a hole in the fender and back into the cab along side of the plastic side cover ? Where did you route the - cable ? From where to the battery. I would think about getting a sealed battery box unless you like the gases that the battery vents while charging....Ot her wise it looks great.

Thanks! And right. And the - goes from the negative post, to a ground a drilled on a seat brace. I can take a picture tomorrow and show ya
And, will do. I should be able to get a battery box and run a little vent tube out somewhere shouldn't I?

Yes to do two things , one to prevent the build up of both the gases and the rust that forms in the area......See the engine bay for more info. Summit has a complete sealed and vented battery box for about $75.00 and I'm using one on my pinto (T) build myself. How is the relocated ground working out ? No problems with charging etc. ?

Ok awesome. And no problems so far. Seems to be pretty solid and charging as normal.

Maybe stick a giant fuse at the battery. If you get a short in a long run like that to the switch it'll burn 'er down. or put the cutoff closer to the battery.
Modest beginnings start with the single blow of a horn man..    Now when you get through with this thing every dickhead in the world is gonna wanna own it.   Do you know anything at all about the internal combustion engine?

Hmm. Maybe right behind the passenger seat. Somewhere easily reachable. Or like you said, a fuse. I could get one of those big ones in a mounted case thing.
