Title: Rebuilding an early FOG 4 speed trans
Post by: LongTimeFordMan on September 09, 2020, 12:01:10 AM
Has anyone replaced the layshaft bearings in an early 2.0 4 speed (FOG) transmission.

My trans makes a whirring sound when in neutral with the clutch engaged and  makes a grunching sound in 2nd gear so i assume its the layshsft bearings.

Otherwise it shifts ok so the syncros and other bearings sem ok.

Also does anyone with in driving distance of Dallas,Tx or is willing to box up and ship one have a spare?

My car is a daily driver so i need either one in good shape or at least a rebuildable core w good gears to prep while i drive my current one.

You might also look locally for a T9 five-speed. They're not exactly common anymore, but it's the closest thing to a drop-in alternative I can think of.
