rear main seal
« on: December 16, 2015, 04:09:12 PM »
hey all, never got a reply in my other post (different topic maybe) ...I want to know ...is it difficult to put in the 2 piece seal in the groove in the block and main cap?  ( '74 2.3 engine.)  Mr Chilton's tells me it requires "special tools" and to take it to the dealer.  Is it a tight fit ?  chance of damaging the seal?  why would they not want me to do it?  I am this far in the block and may as well replace a 40 year seal.  Anyone here done this and how difficult is it?  thanks
