What is the rear ratio choice that would give a little xtra, in town get-up-and Go for a 4cyl Pinto. 1978 model mild 2300 motor with a auto transmission.
What are your choices? :-\

Yes, I see your point. Not to step on anyones toes, but every auto 2.3 car I have owned pales in comparison to a 4spd car performance wise. I had a set of 3.45's in one of my cars, and was very pleased. However, that was an 8". Not sure of availability for the smaller rearend. As a general rule of thumb, though, 3.50's to 3.73's usually work quite well for the apllication you are looking for.

my 73 has a 3.41 stock, and I used to have a spare one until someone stole it and my 78's original 2.73 axle from the side of my parents house. :(
My 73 has a 2.0 though. It's slow, but I think most of my issues are motor related. I really liked the 3.41 in my 78 (equipped with a 4spd trans), but I was shifting into third before I could get though an intersection! Now running a 3.00 8" with the 4spd.

Put a 5.56 in it let it scream!! Better have good shocks for when your wheels slam down.

very common in the early models but those models aren't quite as numerous as they once were.

I went from the stock 3.18 to a 3.55 in my 71 (2.0 Auto.),and it made my car feel "Happy"! Otto N Austin

Where did you get the gears from a wreck or new, did it make a big difference in performance? Appreciate the comment

i did the same with my girlfriends Pinto back in 72. the difference is like night and day. performance around town and on the road was MUCH better and mileage did not suffer at all
