Hello. I was wondering if anyone knows if a limited slip rearend was available W/ 4 cyl as an option? The rearend I have is a limited slip and has the removeable carrier , I believe it to be an 8 inch. 

So would it have been an option?
Is there a definitive way to determine if this is a ford or borg warner limited slip?

are there any bolts on the back side of the rear end? if so its a 6.75 rear, if the bolts  are on the inside by the drive shaft it is a 8inch. as far as limited slip goes not too sure with out the tag numbers off the rear!!!

Here is a picture of an 8 inch and a stock 6 3/4 (on the ground). I don't know if the Limited Slip was a pinto option (my guess is yes but rare). The easiest way to tell if you have a "posi" is to turn one side of the wheels. If both sides turn in the same direction, its a posi. If they turn in different directions, it's a standard one legger.

The bolts are on the front, it is definitely a posi. Both wheels spin. Just seems strange that a 76 pony with manual steering and no AC would have a posi?

The true test is not whether they both spin in the same direction - you have to try and HOLD one tight while turning the other. IF you can't keep it both moving, it's a posi.
I have an 8" rear end from a '78 six cylinder that I thought was a posi, because both axles turned in the same direction. It is not. A true posi will turn both axles regardless of whether you try and keep them from moving. A non-posi can turn both in the same direction, especially when off the ground, but it is misleading.

Thank you everyone for your help.

Mine spins one tire one way and the other opposite, when it is off the ground. I cant hold one and spin the other . The reason I thought it was a limited is that both tires spin when I, ummm, when  my foot slips off the clutch when I happen to have my foot the gas pedal.

I had a ranger that would spin both wheels sometimes but it had an open diff. I did some google-ing and it can happen to a one legger if the correct amount of  traction (or lack there of), under hard acceleration.

I repeated the accidental foot slipping off the clutch several times over the past few weeks to determine if traction was a factor. ( for purely scientific reasons) It seem that both wheels always spin.
I found a lot of information about posi VS limited slip some say its the same some say its a generic term. Some say each manufacturer used it own term.
