Not sure why your post is locked but there is no reply available.  Pictures would sure help. The Pinto had a 6-3/4" and an 8" rear end.  What you describe sounds like a 6-3/4".   A gentleman named Fred Morgan on the California/Arizona border was often a parts source for many of us but unfortunately he passed away a number of years ago.  There are people who sell Pinto parts but it is basically a "you ask, they reply" situation.

The potential good news is that many prefer the stronger 8" rear end and there may be some 6-3/4" rear out there just sitting around.  Again a picture will help identify what you have and providing a general location also helps.  Frankly unless you are rather local most probably won't even bother to reply on something as heavy as a rear end.  Hope that is of some help.

I'm not sure why it was locked either (other than he requested communication by phone rather than through the forum) but I unlocked it and moved it into the General Help - Ask the Experts topic.

No, I'm sorry I don't call people I don't know.  I have been here 10 years and I've never called anyone. It is just a personal preference.  I'm not sure what has you confused???

1. There were two different rear ends used in Pinto's.

2. One type was the 6-3/4" which sounds like what you describe. There is a removable rear cover.

3. The other type is the 8", it has a smooth rounded cover that is not removable and the gears are accessed by a section removable from the front.

4. There are no specific Pinto parts dealers like there might be for a Mustang or Camaro. There are a few individuals that sell parts they have acquired.

5. It is likely a difficulty to find someone selling just the axle or spider gear.

6.  You would probably more easily find someone selling a whole 6-3/4" rear end but that is a heavy item and costly to ship.

I will post this here, and if still applicable on the post that Dwayne unlocked and moved.
