« on: February 12, 2015, 07:02:36 PM »
What is everyone using for a rear diff for the v8 swap in their pinto
What is the best newer vehicle to use as a donor to fit under a 1977 Pinto
Will a Ranger 8.8 work? or a Explorer 8.8? Or something else>
Want to say Thanks to everyone that has help me with info and parts.

What HP / TQ you plan on ?

Wife had two 07 Rangers. First an auto. Second std. Both had 4:88 gears.
If you go with a 4 speed auto , not a big deal: but will be snappy as heck from take off !  ;D

rangers/explorers from the 90's had a lot of 3.73 geared 8.8s.
Bought a 1978 hatchback to be my first car.

Try and find an older junk yard in your area. Find out if they have any late 50's Fords out back and look for a '57-'59 rear end. It should be a 9" rear end, and it will fit right on the spring pads. But you will have to have new U bolts and redrill the stock shock mounts.

my 79 has the first year 9" from a 1957 ranchero, or such. it does fit without cutting the housing or axles...
