Has anyone or is it even possible to take out the rag joint and just use a shaft and U Joints?

You only need one u joint, at least on a 79/80 Pinto. Bought mine off of E-gay for less than a rag joint. Mine is only bolted on the dash end and slip joint in the splines. No cutting or welding necessary and NO I don't have part number. It can't ever come out as its bottomed out on both ends. Easy fix with the right u joint.

Is it possible to take a picture of your setup?

Thanks

Cant get to mine for a picture. What you want is one with a 9/16" x 26 splines X 3/4" Double D and in stainless steel {no rust}, They run about $35.00. Look under "steering u-joints" on E-gay.

Do a search for 9/16" x 3/4" double D steering u joints.  Price has gone up on the one I have ($73.00) but its will worth it as no welding or machine work is necessary at all. Just bolt on.

Thanks Jdm071755 for posting this https://www.ebay.com/itm/192085350465 U-joint. If Dick gives it the thumbs up, it'll work for me. I checked out the listing and the price was so good I bought one. Farewell 42 year old rag joint.
