Title: radiator shroud
Post by: junker on December 24, 2014, 07:49:21 PM
Hi my name is Tim and I bought a radiator shroud on e-bay for my Pinto. It does not fit can anybody tell me what # D5FZ8146C is for. I talked to Dick and he said he has had 16 Pintos and none of them had a shroud.  Don't have a parts book so I am pretty much lost. Thanks Tim.

It looks like its for a 1980 pinto what year is yours? I had Pintos with and without pretty sure they are supposed to be with but probably one of the first things to go in some peoples hands.

On all of my Pintos, there was only a square piece of plastic hanging over the top of the radiator to keep your fingers out of the fan. No shroud at all.  Maybe on a FACTORY ac car but not a dealer ac car.

According to my part number service guide, that number IS for a '75 four cylinder car.  Might your radiator have been changed in the past?  There are two shrouds for the V6:  8146A, for the standard V6;  8146B, for the air conditioned V6. The listing title is "Cap, Radiator Shroud, Fan", but my guide doesn't show an actual shroud. It shows only the little finger guard.

My grandfather's 76 Wagon with factory air and 2.3L auto had one on it.  My 76 runabout without factory air 2.3L auto did not have one.  I plan on installing A/C in my hatchback so I kept it to use along with the fan (it's a little different too).  I think what Dick said though - my grandpop I highly doubt messed with it so I'm assuming it was factory installed on factory A/C cars.

My '73 wagon, non A/C, 2.0, Auto had a two blade fan and a black (fiber impregnated) plastic shroud.  Interesting because the car was assembled in San Jose and until I brought it south it resided in the Bay area (not known for its heat).

All A/C pintos have fan shrouds , but seen a few early ones that did , when I installed add on or dealer installed air the only extra was a larger fan to help cool thing down from the extra heat, that one you have had a five blade steel flex fan,

Pinto_one is correct, my factory A/C grandfather's car had a 5 blade steel flex fan, and the non A/C hatchback has a 4 blade fan with no shroud.
