Title: Question for V8 people
Post by: Rob3865 on May 03, 2014, 08:07:47 AM
On my 76 bobcat, I have a question regarding the frame mount brackets. What are yall doing for the two lower bolt holes? The lower bolt holes on the factory rustang II brackets are at a 90* angle to the frame rail. They are horizontal. The two top bolt holes on each bracket line up fine. What are yall doing here? A piece of angle iron? Weld the brackets on? What gives?

With the set I took pics of, off sets an engine 1 3/4" to the right side of the car.

If I were you , I'd soft bolt the brackets in & with the engine in place check all the angles , height etc.

You may need to mod them up , down or the front of the engine side to side.

Yes , I know many say they are the ones to use , but I know I'd never use them.

Bad/wrong angles & you may end up with a vibration.

Oh and btw, the long bracket does go on the driver's side. That's how the original brackets were in the car. I'm just gonna soft bolt the two on each side that do line up, get the engine in the car and simply make 4 angle brackets out of 3/16 plate that will bolt to the 2 bottom holes on each frame bracket. That should be sufficient.

So is there no one on here who has used the factory mustang II frame brackets? I find that difficult to believe. I would like to know what you did for the two bottom fastener holes on each side. Thanks.

Why is that so hard to believe? There was a group of pictures on this site a few years back that showed how to use the stock motor mounts by relocating the driver side mount. It also showed how to run the exhaust out the front and under the stock cross member. The exhaust hung no lower than the swap headers and required no cutting of the inter fender panels at all. Maybe Scott knows where the pictures are.

I didn't see where that showed how to attach the two lower points on each side. I'll just do mine and be done with it.

I have an extra set of frame mounts for a V8 for a Mustang II. I'm not going to a V8 now, if someone needs them let me know. Wouldn't these just bolt in?

Dianne - the lower part of the mounts hang below the frame rails is what he is getting at.
I held mine up to the rails on my 72. Same thing.
I didn't bother with any head scratching , because I knew I'd never use them due to engine off set they would cause.

I had forgotten about the link Scott posted.
The shorty headers the guy used are interesting.
The exhaust would run sort of the same as the old Holman & Moody swap kit headers - which are known to be called "Tarantula"  headers.

Just a thought I guess and if someone could have used them. I'll ebay them I guess...

Actually, the lower attachment points don't hang below the frame rail. They go about half way down.

Dianne, if I have enough to swing it now, I might buy those from you. What are you looking to get for them?
